Everyone wants to learn something! “Free” formal and in-formal training
The purpose of training is to allow all volunteers to develop and enhance their skills in order to excel in their roles, to work within the guidelines of the organisation and funding body and to provide an optimal duty of care to consumers.
Majority of organisations provide a training package included in the orientation process prior to commencement. You will also be provided with on the job training to familiarize yourself with your new position.
Organisations do include volunteers in internal training that is provided for paid workers. However, Volunteering Service also provides opportunities for volunteers to access at no cost quality based and educational training, to build confidence, skills and knowledge when working in the aged care and disability sector.
Training is also offered to volunteers from other training organisations, such as Health and Community Services Workforce Council Inc and Volunteering Queensland, both provide opportunities for accredited and non-accredited training.
People volunteer for numerous reasons, to give back to the community, keep busy, integrate back into the workforce or learn new skills. Whatever the reason may be most people enjoy learning something new and training, whether it is formal or in-formal can be exciting and fun.
